Autism Screenings
A Mental Health Space, PLLC offers autism screenings for adults who are curious to explore whether they may be on the spectrum. These screenings are not diagnostic in a legal or medical sense, but they are based on decades of solid research and offer a great starting point for increasing your understanding of your symptoms and their impact on you. These screenings can guide us in developing a customized treatment plan to address your concerns and process your challenges based on your most pressing priorities.
Autism-Affirming Therapy
The world we live in is designed to accommodate neurotypicals; life as an autistic person can pose challenges. As an autism-affirming therapist, my priority is to honor your brain’s neurology, not try to mold it into something it is not. In our work together we can explore the unique qualities of your brain. We can come to better understand how to meet your needs and allow you to live a fulfilling life in alignment with your values and goals. We can examine relationships, careers, communication, emotional regulation, and more.
Persistent Drive for Autonomy (PDA) (sometimes called Pathological Demand Avoidance)
Common traits of PDA individuals include a high need for autonomy and a tendency to avoid demands. PDA individuals can experience intense stress and may often feel misunderstood. PDA is often connected to autism, ADHD, and other neurological conditions. Because PDA is not currently recognized as a diagnosis in the DSM-V or ICD-11, research on PDA is limited. Working with a therapist who understands PDA and knows how to support clients with PDA can be an affirming experience.
